Use animation on the master in PPT 2013-2019

Few people know that you can add animation to the master. You can add it to the master itself or to any individual slide layout you want. This has the advantage that all slides can have the same animation, or all slides using the same layout can have automatic animation. No need to copy the animation from slide to slide.

The animation is visible in the slide but you cannot change it unless you copy it to the slide, more on that subject later.

Now let us take an example of the title slide layout that needs animation for the main title and subtitle.

Go to View - Master - select the title slide layout, then select the main title and apply the animation you want, in the example I choose 'Float down' for the main title and 'Float up' for the subtitle.

I set the title to start with previous and the subtitle to after previous and altered the duration of the effect.

Here is how it looks in the title layout on the master:

and here is the animation pane in the master:

and this is the slide in the presentation:
As you can see there is no animation number on the slide or in the animation pane.

At first glance there is no way to edit the animation or change it for that matter. The animation is not on the individual slide but on the layout in the master. In the animation pane you can see the word 'Layout'.

Right-click the animation or click on the down arrow next to the animation in the animation pane and choose "Copy effects to slide'.

From that moment on the animation numbers appear on the individual slide and you can alter or delete the animation.

If you choose View Layout (View Slide Master if you changed the master itself) you can opt to make the changes there so all slides using the layout will be affected.
