You can use two methods to play music by clicking on an image. Use an animation with linked sound or use an action setting.
In both cases there is a big disadvantage, only sounds of the wav type are allowed. Of course you can always convert other sound types into wav. For this purpose I used the free editing program Audacity.
Use an animation
Add your image to the slide.
Go to the Animation tab and add an animation via the Add animation button. This can be any animation. An entrance animation requires a click to make the image appear and play the music simultaneously. With an emphasis/exit animation the image is immediately visible and you have to click on or next to it to play the music.
Click the Animation Pane button in the advanced animation group and double-click the animation in the task pane you want to add the music to. (In the example below I renamed the picture in the selection pane so that the animation reflects the contents).
In the dialog box of the chosen animation, under the Effect tab choose the drop-down arrow next to Sound and choose Other sound at the very bottom.
Select the sound you want to add. The name of the sound/music will now appear in the dialog box, click OK.
If you start the presentation and click the sound will play when you reach the picture in the click sequence. If there is no other animation following just click to stop the music, and click again to move to the next slide. If there is another animation following it will stop the music playing.
Add your image to the slide.
Go to the Insert tab and click the Action button in the Links group.
Select the Play sound check box, click the list arrow and choose Other sound at the very bottom.
Select the sound you want to add and click OK.
When you start the presentation and click on the image (see the hand that appears) the sound will play. Unfortunately you can't stop the sound when you want, even if another animation follows, a click will not stop the sound/music.
Convert an mp3 to the wav format with Audacity
Launch Audacity.
Choose File and Open, navigate to your mp3 and open it.
Then choose File and Export and then Export as wav.
Click Save. Fill in the necessary metadata and click OK. Now use the wav file in your presentation.
