Problems with importing slides from other presentations - new slide layouts

Usually when one imports slides from another presentation there are no major difficulties, the slide adopts the destination format automatically and all is well.

Here's a sample of a perfectly integrated slide, the title slide that is inserted follows the destination formatting:

But sometimes things seem to go wrong. Here's a sample of a slide that does not follow the destination formatting:

Seems like the Title layout of the destination presentation has totally been neglected.

Worse, PPT has added a totally new Title slide layout to the existing ones.

What could cause this to happen. Well in this case it is quite simple the source presentation has a Title slide layout where one of the placeholders (subtitle placeholder) has been removed from its master.
So if you want to avoid trouble it is a good idea to not remove placeholders on original slide layouts.

To solve our problem we will have to apply the correct Title slide layout from the destination presentation to the imported slide, then we can remove the extra slide layout from the master. If there is a slide using a slide layout it can not be removed from the master.

Problemen met invoegen dia's uit andere presentaties - Nieuwe dia-indelingen

Meestal zijn er weinig problemen met het overnemen van dia's uit andere presentaties. De ingevoegde dia neemt automatisch de opmaak over van de presentatie waarin hij terechtkomt.

Hier is een voorbeeld van een perfect geïntegreerde titeldia uit een andere presentatie:

Niettemin kunnen er toch problemen optreden bij het invoegen, hier is een voorbeeld van een ingevoegde Titeldia die de opmaak van de doelpresentatie compleet lijkt te negeren.

Erger nog, PPT heeft ongevraagd een extra dia-indeling toegevoegd aan de reeds bestaande dia-indelingen.

Wat is er fout gegaan? De reden is eigenlijk heel simpel, in het diamodel van de bronpresentatie is een tijdelijke aanduiding gewist uit de dia-indeling titeldia.

Dus je doet er beter aan van tijdelijke aanduidingen niet te verwijderen bij de standaard dia-indelingen.

Om ons probleem om te lossen, passen we eerst de dia-indeling toe van de doelpresentatie op de geïmporteerde dia. Vervolgens kunnen we dan pas de extra dia-indeling verwijderen. Zolang er een dia is die gebruik maakt van de bewuste dia-indeling kan deze niet gewist worden.

Waar is de Office online clipart galerij in PPT 2010?

Begrijp me niet verkeerd, je kan nog steeds zoeken in het taakvenster Illustraties door in het zoekveld je trefwoord in te typen. Je zal als vanouds resultaten krijgen.

Maar er zijn een aantal redenen waarom je liever eerder direct naar Office online zou gaan:

1. Je krijgt meer resultaten.
2. Je kan gemakkelijk de eigenschappen van het bestand opvragen.
3. Je kan clipart van hetzelfde type zoeken
4. Je kan beroep doen op het zoeken naar gelijkaardige afbeeldingen.

Microsoft heeft echter de wijze waarop je zoekt naar afbeeldingen gewijzigd. Tot voor kort kon je gewoon onderaan het taakvenster klikken op Meer zoeken op Office.com.

Helaas krijg je nu niet meer de galerij maar het volgende scherm:

UPDATE - januari 2015
Blijkbaar heeft Microsoft het nodig geacht de Office clip art totaal te verwijderen. Vanaf nu krijg je alleen wat een Bing zoekactie zou opleveren. Bij een klik op Meer zoeken op Office.com krijg je helaas niets meer.

Where's the Office online clip art gallery gone in PPT 2010?

Don't get me wrong, you still can search for clipart using the search for field on top of the task pane. And PPT will return some clipart. But there are a few reasons why you would want to go to Office online directly.

Here are a few:

1. You will get more results there.
2. You can access the properties of the picture.
3. You can select clipart with the same style.
4. You can make use of the search for similar images.

Microsoft changed the way to look for pictures and clip art. Till quite recently one could click on the Find more on Microsoft.com link at the bottom of the Clip Art task pane. It would take you to the Office online ClipArt gallery. It no longer does.

In stead of the gallery you now get this screen:

So what can we do about it? The old site is still available, here's the link to it:

Bookmark it so it is easily available.

UPDATE - january 2015
Apparently Microsoft has decided to remove the Office clip art completely.
From now on you can only use clip art provided by a Bing search. When you click on Find more on Office.com you get nothing.

Een achtergrondafbeelding toevoegen aan individuele dia

Wanneer je een afbeelding als achtergrond hebt gebruikt voor het diamodel of voor een individuele dia-indeling kan je toch nog op je individuele dia een andere achtergrond toevoegen.

Volg de procedure beschreven in mijn vorige blog bijdrage:
Rechts klikken op de dia - kiezen voor Achtergrond opmaken - Opvulling met figuur of bitmappatroon - knop Bestand - afbeelding selecteren en invoegen.

Kies hier wel voor de knop Sluiten en niet voor de knop Overal toepassen.

Wil je later toch nog de achtergrond afbeelding van het diamodel volgen, klik dan rechts op je dia, kies Achtergrond opmaken en klik vervolgens op de knop Achtergrond opnieuw instellen. Opnieuw kies je vervolgens voor de knop Sluiten en niet voor de knop Overal toepassen.

Apply a different background to an individual slide

If you added a common picture background to the master or to an individual slide layout you still can change that on an individual slide.

Just use the procedure I described in my previous blog post:
Right click your slide -  choose Format background - Picture or texture fill - File - browse and select your image - click Insert. Be sure to click Close and not Apply to all.

To reset it to the master, right click the slide, choose Format background, then click the Reset background button and click Close, not Apply to all.

Achtergrondafbeelding diamodel herstellen op dia-indeling

Wanneer je achteraf toch besluit om de afbeelding van het moedermodel te herstellen op een individuele dia-indeling doe je het volgende.

Klik op de knop Achtergrondstijlen in de groep Achtergrond op het lint Diamodel en kies voor Dia-achtergrond opnieuw instellen.

Reset slide background picture on a slide layout

When you decide to keep the master background picture after all, and restore it on an individual slide layout follow this procedure.

Click the Background Styles button in the Background group on the Slide master ribbon and choose Reset slide background.

Wanneer je een afbeelding op het moedermodel plaatst, via het dialoogvenster Achtergrond opmaken, dan kan je op de individuele dia-indeling de afbeelding niet verbergen via de optie Achtergrond verbergen in de groep Achtergrond van het lint Diamodel.

In dergelijke gevallen kan je op de individuele dia-indeling een nieuwe afbeelding gebruiken door in het dialoogvenster Achtergrond opmaken een nieuwe afbeelding in de achtergrond te plaatsen. Rechts klikken op de dia-indeling - kiezen voor Achtergrond opmaken - Opvulling met figuur of bitmappatroon - knop Bestand - afbeelding selecteren en invoegen.

Kies hier wel voor de knop Sluiten en niet de knop Overal toepassen.

Remove picture from slide master on slide layout (2)

As I explained in my previous blog you cannot hide a picture background applied to the slide master on a slide layout using the Hide background graphics in the background group on the Slide master ribbon.

If you want another picture on a slide layout you will have to select the slide layout and apply a different picture background using the Format background dialog.

To apply another picture, go to the slide master - select your slide layout - right click the thumbnail and choose Format background - Picture or texture fill - File - browse and select your image - click Insert.

After inserting your picture be sure to click Close and not Apply to all.
